This is a day trip well worth doing. You can wander around at your own pace looking at all the fantastic exhibits. Of which there are a large number. There are working displays timed throughout the day. There is plenty of walking owing to the vast number of displays in the various buildings. It is of interest to all ages. There are photo opportunities with some of the displays such as the sulky, fire truck and rail ambulance. You can have a snack and drink at the Tea rooms. All the buildings are numbered. You are given a map of the village and 62 buildings and displays to ensure you do not miss anything.
Goodness me, we were overwhelmed with how much there was to see here. They have done an extraordinary job of collecting old artifacts and have even had some old buildings transported here. Whatever you are interested in is bound to be here. From old cars, farm machinery, mining equipment, dolls, dresses, toys, phones, police uniforms, indigenous objects, the list goes on. We unfortunately only had a few hours to spend there, you could easily spend an entire day looking at everything there. They also have displays on at different times of the day, such as blacksmithing and using old machines. Well worth the visit to Herberton but try and give yourself a full day if you are interested in wonderful collectables.
Seemingly Endless hours of FASINAT IONS as village takes visitors thru several eras.Meticuosly kept grounds of 16 AC,it seems bigger..Prepare to spend 4 hrs ++ or you'll miss out on things..Free coffee or tea during this 1st day, you'll need refreshments..Going thru Herbytown, over bridge,it's just past & on right. It deserves 10 stars-!!
Hard to pinpoint a favourite part of this attraction - we loved it all. Maybe the beautifully renovated Elderslie House...?. Very well presented and SO many antiques and displays. Everything was laid out so well and obviously well cared for. Spent 6 hours there but could have spent a week.
Hardly any sign of dust or cobwebs here. VERY well maintained collection set out in easy to see and eye pleasing arrangements, in context. The grounds are extensive and the pathways work around the site, up and down through the settings, with several WOW items to come across. For me the Ambulance on railway track wheels was one ‘never seen before’ item and the egg incubator and poultry defeatherer another. Not your usual dusty, rusty collection of old stuff masquerading as a museum. Bravo Herberton!
This is one of the best representation of life in this region and our Australian heritage. When we got the three day pass I thought we would be done in a day, but I was wrong we have gone both days and could of spent the third there. The amount to see is extraordinary and the detail an effort put into represent everything is outstanding. It’s had to believe that it is privately owned and that the vision the couple had in establishing it. To me it’s a national treasure and we will be back next trip to North Queensland
A really interesting walk back in time, showing many aspects of life, including pubs, print shop, school days, mining and farming, machinery, home life in both large and small homes. A very relaxed location beside a river. Highly recommend.
Spent over 4 hours looking though all the old buildings and displays. Enjoyed tea and scones at the tea rooms. Enjoyed talking with the staff there who had some amazing stories to tell, one staff member in particular - Brent who had a lot of knowledge of the local area and the history. A definite 'must do'!
This is the best venue of its type that we have been to. If you have any interest in history and historical artifacts then you should not miss this place. There is just so much to see, and it is so well presented. The range of things to see is amazing, from a bulldozer collection to a bottle collection to everything you can think of in between. Be sure to allow at least a full day if you want to do justice to it. The on site tea room has a limited range of food and is pretty expensive, so maybe think about bringing a picnic, the village has a couple of covered picnic areas you can use. Or just go and eat in your car, they do pass outs and the car park is right at the front door. The coffee is good though.
