Day 2: Day 2

Stop At: Whitehaven Beach, 4802 Australia
Wake up next to the world-famous Whitehaven Beach and enjoy a guided walk to Hill Inlet Lookout.

Stop At: Mantaray Bay, Coastal Waters Of Great Barrier Reefs, Whitsundays 4802, Australia
Snorkel on the fringing Great Barrier Reef amongst our beautiful marine and coral life.
Duration: 1 hour

Red Cat was a great choice for day trip out of Airlie Beach, the staff on board Emily and Shaun were great fun but kept it all on schedule and super organised. This was our 2nd trip to area and went to completely different places with much better snorkeling locations. I thought it was going to be a really long day but it was perfect with stops and lunch etc. I didn't like having lunch on board but it was practical and understand why they do it.

The whole trip was great, food, crew, activities all was great. The crew Glen, Shaun and Ian made us feel like we belong even though we were oldies on a boat of young ones.

We did this trip with a last minute booking and it was the best decision for our trip! The crew Was lovely, Ian and team were super friendly. Only good vibes and nice people! 🤎

We went on the Tongarra in January after the last minute cancellation of our original booking on another boat. The Tongarra is definitely designed for backpackers on a budget. As mentioned by another reviewer, guests are told that they have the option to sleep in a cabin or “under the stars” on the deck. This is quite misleading as there are legitimately 4 beds and 24 guests. The beds are used to store people’s luggage making the cabin very smelly and stuffy. As for the experience on deck, you’re not really under the stars, you’re crammed together under a leaking tarp. We were given camping mattresses, a pillow and one sheet for bedding. These were wet (presumably from the previous trip) and smelled like feet. Whether it’s the snoring from the random passed out one foot away from you or the party on board, you will be kept awake even with ear plugs. Another issue I had with the trip was hygiene. From the snorkelling equipment that is thrown into a box and shared around, to the bedding and the bathrooms, this is definitely not a covid-safe environment. Speaking of bathrooms, there are no showers. The advertising promises hot showers, but we were informed the boat can’t carry enough water for everyone to have a shower at all, let alone a hot one. Bring wet wipes and heavy duty sanitiser. It was also deceptive to state that banana boat rides are available. We were told by the crew that the banana boat was broken. The snorkelling and short walk at Whitehaven were quite nice but you could get these experiences on a day trip without having to endure the Tongarra. When it comes to food, the main meals served were actually quite good. Abbey did an excellent job cooking for so many people in the tiny kitchen. As one reviewer said, there wasn’t always enough food for everyone and there weren’t snacks. There was a single packet of biscuits that was eaten very quickly by the people present when it was opened. Glenn and Abbey are champions for surviving six days a week on the Tongarra. We were lucky to meet some likeminded and friendly people which definitely improved our overall experience. However, if I were to travel again I would definitely pay more for a better overall experience. If you’re a) on a very tight budget, b) not bothered about sleep or hygiene and c) there to party, this is the trip for you. Otherwise, you’re better off considering a day trip or paying a little extra for a different boat.

Had a great time on Tongarra with a wonderful bunch of people! Despite the weather not being ideal during “wet season” the Crew Glenn and Abbey set the tone for an amazing trip. They work so hard around the clock to give everyone a fantastic experience! We enjoyed the beautiful scenery, company and overall experience. Would highly recommend!

Cannot recommend this trip enough- the group we had was very chilled (compared to stories I’ve heard) but definitely didn’t stop us from having a great time. Everyone was happy lounging on the deck while sailing and having a few bevvies in the arvo/at night. Sleeping outside was unreal and what a better way to wake up than by jumping in the crystal clear waters? Glenn, Abbey and Max were a phenomenal crew- always happy to help and making sure that everyone was having a good time. Whitehaven, Hill Inlet Lookout and snorkelling didn’t disappoint at all. Would book with them again in a heartbeat! Thank you for such a great trip!

Glenn and Abbie were fantastic hosts, would highly recommend booking this trip. helpful friendly people who are happy to help, answer any questions and always up for a laugh. Great trip over all. Amazing scenery around the whitsunday islands. See all the amazing marine life while snorkelling, its worth going for the swim to see the massive fish George. Waking up to the beautiful scenery both mornings is just breath taking. would advise booking this trip you'll have a hoot. There was a bit rain on the trip but that should stop you having a good time, create your own sunshine

Highly recommended!!! It was the best part of my trip travelling down from Cairns to Brisbane. My travel group of backpackers was blessed to have perfect weather in mid-December 2020. The chilled and relaxed atmosphere on the Tongarra catamaran took us to Whitehaven Beach and the Lookout as well as snorkeling to swim among a variety of amazing fish. It was like finding Nemo underwater. Captain Glenn was such a laid back, easy-going 'pirate' while skipper Abby made the best meals and made sure everyone on board was safe and had fun. A must do!!!

Really enjoyed the trip , my favouring part was the snorkeling with all the fish and turtles , food was great too and there was always amazing views to enjoy it with .Just remember to put on loads of sunscreen even if it’s cloudy . Abbie and glen were awesome and always up for a laugh , would definitely recommend 👍👍

Fabulous experience! I went for the 2 night sail adventure over New Years, the crew have your best interest in mind in terms of safety and adventure. Even though weather conditions weren’t ideal, the team ensured a good time for all. Thank you Capt. Cain, Ian and Richie!!
